Wellness Wednesday: Latest on COVID-19 vaccines in Indiana
01/20/2021

What’s the best step you can take to protect yourself and your family from the potential risks of COVID-19? Knowing when, where and how you can get a COVID-19 vaccine.

The Indiana Department of Health has begun vaccinations of healthcare workers, first responders, long-term care residents and residents 70 and older.

As eligibility opens, Hoosiers can register for a vaccination online or call 2-1-1, if they don’t have access to a computer or need assistance registering.

Originally, Hoosier educators would have been eligible in the second round of vaccinations as recommended by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). However, guidance from the Indiana Department of Health has shifted and educators may have to wait longer to receive a vaccine.

ISTA believes that teachers are frontline workers who should be prioritized to receive the vaccine. Read a statement from ISTA President Keith Gambill on this delay. Tell the state health commissioner that you want to see educators prioritized for vaccinations.

Take Action

When you and your family become eligible, be prepared by having done your research beforehand. Review recommendations from the CDC and vaccination testing and approvals from the Federal Drug Administration.

Since March, ISTA has posted the latest information on the impacts of COVID-19, educator FAQs, federal and state resources, virtual resources for remote learning and more at ista-in.org/COVID19. The most up-to-date information on COVID-19 vaccinations, the state’s vaccine plan and ISTA’s advocacy for educators is live. ISTA’s COVID-19 webpage will remain a resource for ISTA members and educators as the impacts of COVID-19 continue.
