What is ISTA Reads?

ISTA Reads is a statewide book club created exclusively for ISTA members. The program offers educators a low-pressure way to connect, recharge and build community through shared reading experiences. ISTA Reads supports educator well-being, strengthens connections across locals and regions and reinforces ISTA’s commitment to the whole educator beyond bargaining and advocacy.

How It Works

  • Members read one book every two months (April, June, August, October and December).
  • Members can submit book suggestions and vote on each selection.
  • ISTA shares local libraries and independent bookstores where the book may be available to borrow or purchase. Members obtain their own copy.
  • Each selection includes a suggested reading schedule.
  • Members read at their own pace.
  • All resources including discussion boards, key information, meeting dates and updates are hosted on the Bookclubs platform.
  • Participate in polls, engagement prompts, virtual discussions and optional in-person events.
  • Celebrate completion! Members who complete all selections will be entered into a drawing for ISTA Reads merchandise and other small giveaways.
