What Is the UniServ Internship Program?

The UniServ Internship program is designed for candidates interested in pursuing future full-time ISTA professional field staff positions within the Association. Individuals accepted into the internship program will learn and train under ISTA UniServ Directors and other Association professional staff.

Internship Criteria

• Minimum of five years’ work experience in an education related field or successful completion of NEA’s Pre-UniServ Academy

• Minimum of two to three years of demonstrated union activism

• Examples include, but are not limited to local, district, state or national committees; participation in the Emerging Leader Cohort; Served as an Association Representative, local leader and/or bargaining team member

• Understanding, or familiarity, with Indiana education law

• Demonstrated community outreach experience

Internship Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills
  • Flexible, dedicated and hardworking
  • Understanding of UniServ staff work
  • Ability to take personal time to fulfill internship curriculum
  • Access to transportation to attend statewide curriculum trainings, conferences, etc.
  • Must pass a background check
