TAKE ACTION: Bill would require more out-of-pocket expenses for educators
01/24/2017

A bill introduced in the Indiana House would require expanded background checks conducted every five years to be paid for by educators (certified and non-certified who interact with students), unless the school district opts to incur the expense.

While ISTA is fully behind keeping kids safe, HB 1079 would require these employees individually foot the bill for the newly required background checks every five years.

With stagnant wages and already increasing out-of-pocket expenses for educators, the state or school districts, as a matter of their school safety policies, should be responsible for the added expense.

Please contact your representative and urge them to support amending HB 1079 so that educators aren’t asked to bear these new costs just to keep their jobs.
