TAKE ACTION: Bill would require more out-of-pocket expenses for educators
02/11/2017

A bill introduced in the Indiana House would require expanded background checks conducted every five years to be paid for by educators (certified and non-certified who interact with students), unless the school district opts to incur the expense.

ISTA supports background checks however, with stagnant wages and already increasing out-of-pocket expenses for educators, the state or school districts, as a matter of their school safety policies, should be responsible for the added expense.

Please contact your senator and urge them to support amending SB 34 on 2nd reading so that educators aren’t asked to bear these new costs just to keep their jobs.
