Stand Up for Quality Education at Upcoming State Board of Education Meetings

There are two upcoming opportunities for you to provide public comment/testimony about diploma requirements at State Board of Education meetings.

We encourage you to attend and weigh in on the impact proposed changes to high school diplomas can have on students and educators. These meetings are vital opportunities for us to collectively stand up and push for changes that truly benefit the quality of education in the state of Indiana.

Meeting 1:

• Date: Wednesday, July 17
• Location: Conference Room B of the Indiana Government Center South, 302 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 | Parking available at the Washington Street Garage, located at the corner of Washington Street and West Street. The public entrance to the Government Center South is located at 10 N. Senate Avenue on the east side of the building, across from the Statehouse. Expect airport-style security. Check the board's website or ISTA's social media for any location updates.
• Agenda: You can review the full meeting agenda at the board's website.
• Time: 9 a.m. ET (Registration opens 30 minutes before the meeting, please arrive early)

Meeting 2:

• Date: Tuesday, July 30
• Location: Conference Rooms 4 and 5 of the Indiana Government Center South, 302 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 | Parking available at the Washington Street Garage, located at the corner of Washington Street and West Street. The public entrance to the Government Center South is located at 10 N. Senate Avenue on the east side of the building, across from the Statehouse. Expect airport-style security. Check the board's website or ISTA's social media for any location updates.
• Agenda: This meeting is specifically on the graduation requirements.
• Time: 10 a.m. ET (Registration opens 30 minutes before the meeting, please arrive early)

Remember:

• Preparation is key:
  • Public comment is limited to three minutes. Have your three-minute statement ready and focused on clear, constructive feedback.
  • Consider bringing water and snacks as the meeting will likely run past lunch time.
  • If everyone attending cannot fit into the room, be prepared to wait outside in the hallway until you are called to speak. ISTA staff will be on site to assist.
• Visibility matters: Wear ISTA colors and bring respectful signs if possible.
• Voice your support: If you cannot attend, consider sending your written comments to SBOE_Comment@sboe.in.gov.
