Local Teachers Awarded Scholarships

ISTA Foundation Granted 18 Teachers Scholarships to Pursue National Board Certification
INDIANAPOLIS — March 15, 2016
The ISTA Foundation for the Improvement of Education awarded 18 teachers with scholarships to pursue National Board Certification. ISTA and the ISTA Foundation are committed to advancing obtainment of this important credential to strengthen teaching practices and improve student learning.
“Nationally there are more than 91,000 board certified teachers, but Indiana has had only 169 certified,” said ISTA Foundation President Keith Gambill. “It is our aim to support those wishing to develop professionally and increase awareness of and interest in National Board Certification for the betterment of our kids and schools.”
This year the ISTA Foundation saw a significant increase in applications for their Scholarship for National Board Certification. The ISTA board of directors contributed an additional $5,000 in order to fund all applicants at the full $500 scholarship.
The scholarship awardees are:

- Meredith Cassady, New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation, Reading/Language Arts
- Jacqueline Cobb, New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation, Generalist
- Deborah Gaff, Greensburg Community School Corporation, Science
- Pam-Ella Harper, South Bend Community School Corporation, Reading/Language Arts
- Bryan Julian, New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation, Elementary Education & English as a New Language Marta Lute, Fort Wayne Community Schools
- Stacie Lockhart, New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation, Exceptional Needs Specialist
- Athenus Mattingly, New Albany Floyd County Consolidated School Corporation, Generalist
