Keynote speaker added to Good Teaching Conference
02/05/2018

This year’s Good Teaching Conference falls on March 2 – Read Across America Day. To celebrate, ISTA added a second keynote speaker to the Good Teaching Conference agenda.

Hayan Charara, a poet and children’s book author, will discuss his children’s book, “The Three Lucys”, and the importance of incorporating diverse authors into reading curriculums. This year’s Read Across America theme is “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers.”

“The Three Lucys” was featured in the NEA’s Read Across America resource calendar. Charara’s book also received the New Voices Award Honor from Lee & Low Books.

Following Charara’s keynote speech on Friday evening, he will sign copies of his book. Barnes & Noble will have The Three Lucys and other books featured in the Read Across America resource calendar available for purchase.

A native of Detroit, Charara holds degrees from Wayne State University, New York University and the University of Houston. He currently teaches in the Honors College at the University of Houston.
