ISTA Statement on Senate Passage of HB 1315
03/06/2018

ISTA President Teresa Meredith released this statement following the passage of HB 1315 by the Indiana Senate on Tuesday:

“We are disappointed that legislators have not respected educators’ voices in this important conversation around assisting fiscally distressed schools. This bill sets a deeply concerning precedent by using fiscal issues to disrupt local governance and operations of our public schools. Students and their families deserve to have safe and stable learning environments.

We will continue to advocate for teachers as meaningful partners in Muncie schools going forward.

We ask Ball State University leaders to recognize the importance of the collective voice of Muncie teachers in delivering a quality education and pledge to work with them to the benefit of the community, its schools and students.”
