ISTA Statement on Oregon School Shooting
10/16/2026

ISTA is heartbroken by the tragic shooting at Silver Rail Elementary School in Bend, Oregon, and extends our deepest condolences to the families, students and educators affected, including our union siblings in the Bend Education Association and Oregon Education Association. Ensuring children are safe when they walk through their school doors is one of our most fundamental responsibilities, and we cannot continue to fail them. Our students and educators deserve more than thoughts and prayers; they deserve meaningful action to prevent gun violence in our schools.
