ISTA Statement on IPS Governance and Community Voice
12/12/2025

“ISTA stands with our Indianapolis Education Association (IEA) members, IPS educators and the Indianapolis community in affirming that Indianapolis Public Schools must remain governed by an elected school board.

Public schools belong to the public. An elected board ensures transparency, accountability and a direct voice for parents, educators and taxpayers in decisions that shape students’ futures. Any proposal that removes that authority from voters would weaken community oversight and undermine trust.

ISTA will continue to support our IEA local as they work to protect democratic governance, advocate for students and defend the stability and strength of Indianapolis public schools.”
