ISTA Statement on Final Budget Bill
04/27/2023

Today, House and Senate Republicans released their compromise budget bill which includes school funding. In response, ISTA President Keith Gambill issued the following statement:

"Students of every color, background and ZIP code deserve qualified and caring educators who are dedicated to connecting with them and have the resources to uncover their passions and potential. However, amid a deepening educator shortage crisis across Indiana, Republican policymakers decided to pass a divisive budget bill that siphons a billion in taxpayer dollars away from community-based public schools – where more than 90 percent of Hoosier kids attend – to unaccountable private schools.

Hoosier educators, parents and other public-school advocates will hold our elected leaders accountable. Only by holding our elected officials accountable will educators receive the respect, competitive wages and support they deserve so they can provide their students with the skills needed to fulfill their dreams in safe, just and welcoming schools. Our work continues. We will not be silenced."
