ISTA Statement on Federal Approval of Indiana Waiver Request

ISTA supports efforts to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens and provide schools with greater flexibility when it helps educators better serve students. As Indiana moves forward with implementation, it will be important to ensure that federal funds remain transparent, equitable and focused on improving student outcomes, particularly for students with the greatest needs.

The approved waiver provides Indiana with additional flexibility in administering certain federal education funds while allowing the state to align its state and federal accountability systems through a single framework that places greater emphasis on measures of student success beyond standardized test scores alone. ISTA believes it is essential that families continue to receive meaningful information about how their schools are serving students and that educators, parents and communities remain part of the conversation as these changes are implemented.
