ISTA Statement on Election Results
11/08/2016

ISTA President Teresa Meredith issued the following statement on the election of Eric Holcomb as governor and Jennifer McCormick as superintendent of public instruction.

“With Eric Holcomb’s gubernatorial win, it is my hope that Indiana can turn the page from the out of touch and failed education policies pushed by Gov. Mike Pence. I am optimistic that Governor-elect Holcomb will respect public school educators, and the union they choose, and work with them directly to address the issues facing the education profession and the kids who rely on a quality public education.

Glenda Ritz had to cope with continued political interference, which hampered her ability to administer her office. Voters appear to want to reset the tone of this office. My expectation is that Dr. Jennifer McCormick will use her term as superintendent to carry on the department successes of Ritz’s last four years.

We will connect with newly elected officials and look for the incoming administration to support public education and educators. We will continue our work to strengthen the profession because every kid, regardless of ZIP code, deserves a well-trained educator and access to a great community public school.”
