ISTA RA delegates participated in virtual meeting
06/05/2020

ISTA’s 204th Representative Assembly (RA) was one for the history books. Nearly 300 delegates attended the meeting – virtually. Even from home, delegates acted on important issues that impact members and educators. Here’s a recap.

The ISTA Board of Directors or the ISTA president proposed four bylaw amendments and delegates passed all four.

    1. The first bylaw amendment prevents a spike in membership dues if beginning teacher salaries rise quickly.
    2. The second bylaw amendment clarifies how education support professional dues are calculated and reflects current practice.
    3. The third bylaw amendment brings ISTA language into compliance with NEA language on disaffiliations.
    4. The fourth bylaw amendment aligns ISTA leadership positions with the school year calendar. Terms will now be from July 15 – July 14. All term lengths and number of terms eligible to serve remain the same.

ISTA Treasurer Doug Taylor was reelected to serve his second term as treasurer.

Delegates also approved the proposed budget for the 2020 – 21 fiscal year. Thank you to all the delegates and members who participated in the ISTA RA and regional meetings. You make our Association stronger and better prepared for the future.
