ISTA member named ‘World’s Greatest Director’
12/19/2016

While ISTA would say our members are the “world’s greatest,” it’s not often that another organization recognizes an ISTA member as such.

ISTA member Nicholas Boersma of Kankakee Valley Schools was named “World’s Greatest Director” by Plum Grove Music. Located in Lowell, Ind., Plum Grove serves northwest Indiana and Chicagoland by providing musical instrument rentals and sales, instrument restorations and lessons.

“Nick was selected by his students, their parents and others in the community as one of the very best among music directors,” said Rick Thacker, Plum Grove founder and CEO. “This special recognition signifies Nick’s commitment to providing an excellent educational experience for his students, helping them discover the joys and benefits of making music and fostering a positive musical experience for their community at-large.”

Nominations and votes were cast via social media. The area’s best music directors – from school bands, orchestras and choirs – were nominated. Boersma came out on top.

“Thousands of votes were cast and many included testimonials and memories of wonderful band experiences with the KV [Kankakee Valley Schools] music program,” said Thacker. “We couldn’t be happier to see evidence of so many lives that Nick has touched.”

Plum Grove honored Boersma in a series of presentations at the Kankakee Valley Schools, where he teachers over 300 students each week.
