ISTA Foundation awards scholarships to high school seniors

The ISTA Foundation for the Improvement of Education announced more than 45 scholarship recipients. The scholarships are awarded to high school seniors pursuing continuing education.

This year, the Foundation was pleased to award the following scholarships.

Justine M. Harrell Memorial Scholarship

Rebecca Mattson was awarded the Justine M. Harrell Memorial Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior planning to pursue a degree in education. Mattson demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in co-curricular activities as assistant section and senior leader of Penn bands program and team captain of Tests of Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science. The former Penn High School student plans to pursue a degree in music education.

Damon P. Moore Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded to an ethnic-minority, high school senior planning to pursue a degree in education. This year two recipients were selected.

Mykah Coleman was awarded the Damon P. Moore Scholarship. Coleman demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in co-curricular activities as a member of the National Hispanic Honors Society. The former Shortridge High School student plans to study elementary education.

Cristian Dominguez was awarded the Damon P. Moore Scholarship. Dominguez demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in co-curricular activities as president of the Young Latinos Unidos club and member of the Spanish and German clubs. The former Jasper High School student plans to study elementary education at the University of Southern Indiana.

Educator Scholarship

Emma Levi was awarded the Educator Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior and dependent of an ISTA member planning to pursue a degree in education. Levi demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in co-curricular activities as class secretary, National Honor Society member and a volunteer with the Special Olympics. The former Rising Sun High School student plans to study special education and elementary education at Mount St. Joseph University.

Career Scholarship

Jordyn Livesay was awarded the Career Scholarship. This scholarship is awarded to a high school senior and dependent of an ISTA member. Livesay demonstrated academic achievement and leadership in co-curricular activities as Key Club treasurer and National Honor Society member. The former Scottsburg High School student plans to study physical therapy at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis.

District Scholarship

This scholarship is awarded by regional District Councils to high school seniors who are dependents of an ISTA member planning to participate in a formal training program (apprenticeship, trade school, etc.) or attend a two or four-year accredited college or university.
