Bosma promises to fix school funding shortfall
12/13/2017

One of ISTA’s top legislative priorities – announced last week – is already gaining traction from Indiana’s leading lawmaker. At a legislative panel discussion Wednesday, House Speaker Brian Bosma addressed Indiana’s funding shortfall for Indiana schools.

“I promise you, we will make up the funding,” said Bosma.

This would guarantee the state’s commitment to Hoosier kids. Providing the promised funding to schools is a top priority in ISTA’s recently released legislative agenda.

Speaker Bosma said the funding shortfall demonstrates that more parents are choosing public schools, framing it as a success story.

Last month, school districts learned that the legislature’s school budget fell short by approximately $9.3 million, due to an increase in enrollment at traditional public schools.

ISTA will continue to advocate for this funding into the 2018 General Assembly.
