American Education Week is a nationwide celebration held the week before Thanksgiving to recognize public education and the people who make it possible including educators, education support professionals, substitute teachers, staff and community members. Each plays a vital role in supporting students and families and helping schools thrive.

American Education Week
Monday, Nov. 17: Kick-off Day
- Familiarize students with American Education Week, including history, celebration themes, etc. in the morning announcements and throughout the week.
- Share American Education Week graphics on personal social media accounts.
- Have students make cards showing appreciation for their favorite educators.
Tuesday, Nov. 18: Family Day
- Invite parents into your classroom to observe and/or to read to students, talk about their career, etc.
Wednesday, Nov. 19: Education Support Professionals Day
- Host an appreciation event for ESPs in your school or district. Share photos on social media.
- Arrange a food or gift delivery for ESPs in your school or district.
- Encourage teachers, students and parents to share a "thank you" note/letter to the ESPs in their schools.
- Give a social media shoutout to ESPs.
Thursday, Nov. 20: Educator for a Day
- Invite members of the community into your classroom to read to students, talk about their career or share educational information.
- Ask students to dress as if they were in their future career and talk about that profession's role in the community.
Friday, Nov. 21: Substitute Educators Day
- Provide a reminder to school staff to prepare for, welcome and support substitute educators who may be present.
- Arrange a schoolwide recognition of substitute educators on the school bulletin board or during the daily announcements.
