What you need to know for the Red For Ed Action Day
11/14/2019

Are you excited for ISTA’s Red For Ed Action Day?

Here's more to get excited about. National Education Association Vice President Becky Pringle will join us! She'll share inspiring words for Hoosier educators and public education advocates.

With so many attending the Red For Ed Action Day, and there’s still time for others to register, here are some details about the day and what you can expect.

  1. Don’t forget to wear red! Bring your signs (signs inside Statehouse must be 2’x2’ or smaller and not mounted on a stick), and we’ll have signs, too.
  2. Plan your arrival. You have options. Find metered parking downtown using ParkIndy.net. Find a garage space using parking finders, like Parking Panda. Take a ride on Indy’s newest Bus Rapid Transit route – the Red Line. Park at the garage at College Ave. and Broad Ripple Ave. and ride directly to the Statehouse. We’ve got information for additional parking options and for those using buses or large vans here.
  3. When you arrive at the Statehouse grounds, find the ISTA tent to check-in. We want to have a final count to share with legislators.
  4. Here’s the agenda. Plan to be flexible – it’s hard to move 10,000 people and get them through Statehouse security. Anticipate airport-like security with bag x-rays and metal detectors.
  5. We’ve prepared maps to show you where activities will happen – Statehouse grounds, march route, Statehouse inside.
  6. What to do for lunch? There will be food trucks at the Robert D. Orr Plaza (directly west of the Statehouse at the government center). The first 2,000 attendees to check in at the ISTA tent will receive 20 percent off coupons from Simon to eat at the Circle Center Mall food court.
  7. You can get all this information, announcements and updates on the event app. Download Whova before you arrive for the action day.
  8. Other resources: We've established the second floor conference center at the ISTA building, 150 W. Market St., as a quiet space with WiFi for eLearning, a lactation lounge and first aid.
  9. Tag, share and post all day long! The official Red For Ed Action Day hashtags are #RedForEd and #IamISTA.
  10. If you have any other questions, find an ISTA staff member wearing an official staff pass or a marshal in reflective vests.
