Understanding the ESP Bill of Rights
11/19/2024
The ESP Bill of Rights is a set of principles aimed at ensuring fair treatment, equitable pay and professional recognition for Education Support Professionals. It is a call to action for policymakers, administrators and communities to value the work of ESPs and provide them with the resources and respect they deserve.
Key Tenets of the ESP Bill of Rights:
- Fair and Competitive Wages: ESPs deserve pay that reflects the importance and complexity of their roles.
- Access to Benefits: This includes health insurance, retirement plans and paid leave.
- Job Security: Protections against unjust layoffs or terminations.
- Opportunities for Professional Development: Training and resources to grow in their careers.
- A Safe Work Environment: Policies to protect ESPs from harm and harassment.
- Representation and Voice: The right to unionize and advocate for their rights collectively.
