Sunny Heights Elementary Announced as Outreach to Teach Project
06/20/2017

Warren Township School to Receive Cosmetic Updates from Indiana Student Education Association

The Indiana Student Education Association (ISEA) and the Indiana State Teachers Association named Sunny Heights Elementary in the Metropolitan School District of Warren Township as the Outreach to Teach 2018 project. The annual event rewards a deserving public school with cosmetic updates completed in a one-day volunteer blitz. Outreach to Teach is scheduled for April 7, 2018.

"Sunny Heights Elementary is very excited about the opportunity to partner with the ISTA on the Outreach to Teach project," said Sunny Heights Elementary Principal Barton Lewis. "We are looking forward to working with the ISTA and our community to enhance our school in a way that makes all of our students, families and staff proud. We truly appreciate this opportunity and look forward to what will surely be a great event!"

Sunny Heights Elementary serves more than 500 students in grades K - 4. Nearly 90 percent of the students at Sunny Heights qualify for free and reduced lunches. The school has strong community support from the Kiwanis Club and parent organizations.

"For ISEA to have chosen Sunny Heights as the school to invest their time, effort and finances to update and enhance parts of the building to better serve and uplift students, parents and community members as they enter and exit the building is a humbling and exciting opportunity," said Warren Education Association (WEA) President Jenny Whitaker. "WEA looks forward to working with ISEA and ISTA on this wonderful project that will only enhance all that is good about the eastside."

"We've started preparing for the project," said Molly Wolfe, Outreach to Teach Co-Chair. "ISEA will work with the school to identify projects, costs and fundraising goals to make this Outreach to Teach a success."
