Preview of Rising Educator Conference keynotes
08/29/2017

What makes a conference powerful, memorable and useful?

Conference keynote speakers that inspire and motivate. The Rising Educator Conference has two such keynote speakers, Dr. Lori Desautels and Ashley Muscarella.

Desautels is an assistant professor at Butler University and her research centers around brain strategies to improve learning. A former elementary educator, Desautels understands how to transform research into practical tools to use in the classroom.

Her keynote, “Priming the Brain for Learning and Behavior,” explains how kids’ brains under emotional or physical stress are not prepared to learn. Therefore, understanding how to relieve stress allows for kids to be in the mindset for learning. Desautels will discuss how educators can train kids’ brains to be prepared to emotionally regulate, problem solve and create. Addressing the needs of individual students in this way can improve educational outcomes for the entire class.

Transitioning from an experienced educator, the Rising Educator Conference will welcome Ashley Muscarella, a future education leader. She will bring the perspective of a future educator to the conference. She is the current National Education Association Student Program chair.

Her voice is one you will hear in the future leading our national association. Future educators are optimistic, activated and driven by passion, much like our early career educators. Both Indiana Student Education Association members and early career educators can grow from looking through a new lens at the profession.
