Join ISTA at the State Board of Education Meeting on May 8

In response to the challenges posed by the new literacy endorsement requirements and to address concerns over sweeping changes to high school diplomas, we urge you to join us at the upcoming State Board of Education meeting on May 8. This meeting is an opportunity for us to directly express our concerns and advocate for the necessary changes that respect the dedication and professionalism of teachers.

Meeting Details

• Date: May 8
• Location: Conference Room B of the Indiana Government Center South, 302 W. Washington St., Indianapolis, IN 46204 | Parking available at the Washington Street Garage, located at the corner of Washington Street and West Street. The public entrance to the Government Center South is located at 10 N. Senate Avenue on the east side of the building, across from the Statehouse. Expect airport-style security.
• Time: 9 a.m. ET | Registration sheets will be available at least 30 minutes prior to the start of the meeting. Please plan to arrive early as registration closes five minutes before the meeting begins.

Participation Guidelines and Preparation

• Public Participation Policy: Comments on agenda items are limited to five minutes, and general public comments to three minutes. Written comments may also be submitted to the chair during the meeting.
• Visibility matters: Wear ISTA colors and bring respectful signs if possible.
• How to Prepare for Participation
  • Register Early: Ensure you register as soon as you arrive to secure a spot to speak.
  • Prepare Your Statement: Given the time limits, it’s crucial to prepare a concise statement that clearly articulates your concerns and suggestions.
  • Focus on Constructive Feedback: While it's important to express frustrations, also aim to propose clear and constructive changes.

Your participation is important in demonstrating our unity and resolve in addressing these requirements that significantly impact our professional lives. We also encourage you to invite fellow educators who share our concerns to join us. If you would prefer not to speak, feel free to attend to show your support.
