ISTA to Celebrate National Board Certified Teachers March 3
02/27/2017

Recognition Ceremony at the ISTA Good Teaching Conference

Fewer than 200 teachers in the state of Indiana have achieved National Board Certification, while neighboring states Kentucky, Ohio and Illinois each have more than 3,000 National Board Certified Teachers. National Board Certification is the most respected professional certification available in education. Completion of National Board Certification signifies that a teacher has demonstrated the advanced knowledge, skills and practices required of an outstanding professional.

“Indiana is well-behind our neighbors in promoting and supporting National Board Certification,” said ISTA President Teresa Meredith. “Certification results in better teachers and improves student learning and outcomes.”

The Indiana State Teachers Association has adopted a robust support program to encourage teachers to pursue certification. The ISTA Professional Resource Center offers informational sessions, workshops and mentoring to inform and assist prospective candidates through the certification process. The ISTA Foundation for the Improvement of Education also offers scholarships to defray costs of certification for ISTA members pursuing National Board Certification.

ISTA will host a recognition ceremony for ISTA National Board Certified Teachers during the Good Teaching Conference.
