ISTA Statement on Updated Diploma Changes
08/15/2024

The Indiana State Teachers Association (ISTA) is encouraged by the positive changes reflected in the Indiana State Board of Education’s (IDOE) revised draft of the high school redesign and diploma requirements. The incorporation of educator input into this new draft is a significant step forward, demonstrating that the voices of educators and community members have been heard and valued.

Key improvements include enhanced academic rigor and a commitment to addressing access and equity concerns. These changes reflect the collective efforts of ISTA members and other stakeholders who have been actively engaged in this process.

While there is still room for further refinements, ISTA is pleased with the progress made and will continue to work collaboratively to ensure that the final plan, serves the best interests of all Indiana students, no matter their background or ZIP code.

We thank Secretary Jenner and the IDOE for their responsiveness and look forward to collaborating in shaping a brighter future for Hoosier kids.

In Solidarity,

Keith Gambill, President
Indiana State Teachers Association
