ISTA Statement on State Board of Education’s Adoption of New High School Diploma Requirements
12/11/2024

The Indiana State Teachers Association commends the State Board of Education for adopting the revised high school redesign proposal. This plan represents significant progress toward creating a more flexible, relevant and equitable high school experience for Hoosier students. Many of the updates, such as enhanced flexibility, readiness seals and maintained academic rigor, reflect the thoughtful incorporation of educator feedback shared through public hearings, comments and testimony.

While challenges remain, ISTA stands ready to partner with Secretary Jenner to ensure these new requirements meet the needs of all students, regardless of their background or ZIP code. Together, we can build a high school experience that prepares every Indiana student to thrive in enrollment, employment or enlistment pathways.
