ISTA Statement on State Board of Education Accountability Rulemaking
06/04/2025

“Indiana lawmakers have made the decision to return to A–F school letter grades beginning in the 2026–27 school year. While ISTA continues to believe that reducing a school’s performance to a single letter oversimplifies complex realities, we are focused now on ensuring that the measures behind those grades are fair, accurate and meaningful.

Accountability should reflect how well schools are serving students, not simply mirror the challenges their communities face. ISTA is committed to working with the State Board of Education and Secretary Jenner to shape an accountability model that promotes equity, recognizes growth and reflects the full range of what success looks like for Hoosier students.”
