ISTA Members Earn National Board Certification
01/16/2018

In December, the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards announced the newly certified National Board Certified Teachers (NBCT). Fourteen Hoosier teachers achieved the certification, six were current ISTA members.

“ISTA is proud of the Indiana teachers who pursued this prestigious and rigorous certification,” said ISTA President Teresa Meredith. “Our kids and schools benefit from teachers who thoughtfully approach their practice.”

National Board Certification is nationally recognized as the top teacher certification program. The certification process takes candidates through three portfolio entries and a computer-based assessment to demonstrate effectiveness, knowledge and skills. Twenty-five areas of certification are offered spanning disciplines and developmental levels.

In 2016, Indiana ranked 48 in the country for percentage of NBCTs. ISTA has developed programming and mentorships to support NCBT candidates in Indiana. Nine of the fourteen newly certified teachers participated in ISTA programs for NBCT candidates. Additionally, the ISTA Foundation offers scholarships for ISTA members to defray costs of certification.
