ISTA center court spotlight on future educators
08/16/2017

The bright lights of center court illuminated ISTA President Teresa Meredith and Indiana Student Education Association (ISEA) President Lyndsy Eslinger on Aug. 6. The Indiana Fever invited ISTA to host a half-time game recognition for a public school educator.

“I thought it would be a valuable opportunity to shine a light on our future educators,” said Meredith. “Lyndsy has been a great asset since joining ISEA, and it’s important we foster and support those that will follow us in the profession.”

Eslinger, who recently started her first semester of student teaching at New Augusta Public Academy South in Pike Township, received a basket of classroom supplies from ISTA ReSupply. The ReSupply program accepts new and used school supply donations, which are then offered to new educators. Early career educators start from scratch to build their classroom supplies and materials. ReSupply gives them a boost.

“The basket of classroom supplies will go a long way to helping me during my student teaching,” said Eslinger. “It was very exciting to go out on the Fever court to accept the supplies! My whole family attended, which made it really special.”

ISTA has partnered with the Indiana Fever this season on the Read Like a Pro program. ISTA and the Fever have hosted numerous reading events throughout the summer to promote childhood literacy.

“Thank you to the Fever for the opportunity to recognize our future educators,” said Meredith.
