Warren Township School to Receive Makeover.

The Indiana Student Education Association (ISEA) and ISTA will host Outreach to Teach at Sunny Heights Elementary on Saturday, April 7. The annual event rewards a deserving public school with cosmetic updates completed in a one-day volunteer blitz.

WHO: ISEA and ISTA
WHAT: Volunteer blitz to makeover school
WHERE: Sunny Heights Elementary School, 11149 Stony Brook Dr., Indianapolis
WHEN: April 7 from 7:30 a.m. – 4 p.m. ET

“Outreach to Teach gives aspiring educators an opportunity to give back to a community public school before graduation,” said Molly Wolfe, Outreach to Teach co-chair and ISEA Board of Directors member. “We look forward to spending our careers in the classroom and continuing to support kids and communities.”

Sunny Heights Elementary School Principal Barton Lewis said, “Sunny Heights is very excited and appreciative of the opportunity the ISTA is providing our school community with the Outreach to Teach event. Any event that brings together staff, families, community members and dedicated educators is a great thing. The beautification projects for our school will be a great source of pride for our students and staff to celebrate what's great about being a Sunny Heights Eagle!”

In determining which public school would be chosen for Outreach to Teach, ISEA looked at a variety of factors including need-based and community support. Sunny Heights Elementary serves more than 500 students in grades K – 4. Nearly 90 percent of the students qualify for free and reduced lunches. The school has strong community support from Kiwanis Club and parent organizations.

ISEA is a statewide member-organization comprised of undergraduate and graduate students at Indiana colleges and universities pursuing education degrees or planning to enter the education profession.
