College students dedicate weekend to public school improvements
04/10/2017

On Saturday, more than 140 volunteers, mostly college students, traveled from across the state to Evans School to paint lockers and murals, build a pergola, landscape, organize school supplies and more.

The Indiana Student Education Association (ISEA), undergraduate and graduate college students planning to enter the education profession, hosted their annual service project Outreach to Teach in Evansville. Outreach to Teach is a one-day volunteer program to makeover a deserving public school.

“We plan to spend our careers in the classroom,” said Lyndsy Eslinger, ISEA Vice President. “It’s great to get into a school and start making a difference now.”

ISEA members chose the school, solicited donations, coordinated volunteer outreach and identified projects. This was a student-led effort that resulted in an improved school environment for more than 500 elementary school students.

Nominate your school for Outreach to Teach 2018! ISEA will accept school nominations for Outreach to Teach 2018 until May 12. Nominated schools for 2018 need to be in ISEA District 3 (central Indiana). For more information visit, ista-in.org/o2t
