Celebrate Read Across America all month long
03/01/2019

Every March, educators and students across the nation celebrate Read Across America. And this year, ISTA is encouraging schools and classrooms to make reading a month-long celebration.

Instilling a love of reading offers kids an opportunity to explore new worlds, be inspired and find characters that look like them. The National Education Association (NEA) has embraced the theme of “Celebrating a Nation of Diverse Readers” for Read Across America. Diversity in authors, characters and experiences allow all kids to discover a favorite book.

NEA has published resources including a calendar and posters to highlight diverse literary offerings for kids of all ages from Pre-K – 12.

You can find many of these titles and more at discounted rates for educators and schools in low-income communities at First Book Marketplace.

How can you celebrate with ISTA?

ISTA plans to host fourth-grade classes for a Read Across America reading event in late March at the Statehouse. If you’re a fourth-grade teacher who wants your class to participate, email communications@ista-in.org.

Share your celebrations all month! ISTA wants to see your Read Across America celebrations. Use the hashtag #ReadAcrossAmerica and tag ISTA in your posts.
