Bill allowing private voucher schools to bypass ISTEP sent to study committee
02/22/2015

Scantron_Sheet_H.jpgLast week, ISTA alerted you to SB 470 which would allow private voucher schools to administer tests other than ISTEP for accountability purposes. Hundreds of you wrote your senator urging their opposition.

Thanks to Sen. Luke Kenley (R-Noblesville) for proposing a dramatic change to the bill. Sen. Kenley asked the bill’s author, Sen. Scott Schneider (R-Indianapolis), to widen the bill’s purpose calling for a summer study committee to research issues surrounding acceptable testing for all students. Sen. Schneider agreed.

The Senate Appropriations Committee voted (10-3) for the amended version. The bill now moves to the full Senate.
