STATEMENT: Gubernatorial candidates give voters clear choice on education issues
09/27/2016

The candidates for governor participated in the first of three debates today, with today’s being focused on the issue of education. In response to the debate, ISTA President, Teresa Meredith issued the following statement:

"After hearing from Lt. Governor Holcomb, it is clear that he will continue with the failed education reform policies of Tony Bennett and Mike Pence. Indiana students cannot afford more of the same failed leadership that has given us a severe teacher shortage and a divisive agenda that results in underfunding our local public schools.”

“John Gregg’s grasp of the issues affecting student learning, respecting teachers as professionals and local, public control of schools is refreshing to hear from a candidate for governor.

“I hope that voters take time to learn more about these candidates and what they will do to ensure all kids, no matter their zip code, have access to a quality, free public education.”
