Legislation filed to fix school funding shortfall
01/03/2018

Today, on the first day of the 2018 legislative session, a bill was filed to fix the school funding shortfall that was identified late last year.

Fixing the funding shortfall is one of ISTA’s top legislative priorities.

SB 189, authored by Sen. Ryan Mishler (R – Bremen), would allow the state budget agency to transfer the amount necessary to offset any reduction in funding to schools. The bill places a limit on the transfer to $25 million per year. The state currently has an estimated shortfall of $11.8 million in school funding.

ISTA will continue to advocate for this funding during the 2018 General Assembly.
