ISTA Statement on Potential Loss of School Funding for COVID-Related Virtual Learning
09/01/2021

In response to newly released information from the Indiana Department of Education that some schools may be at risk of losing 100% funding for students in virtual learning due to safety measures around COVID-19, ISTA President Keith Gambill issued the following statement.

“While we all anticipated and hoped that the new school year would be back to normal, unfortunately we still find ourselves amid an ongoing pandemic that’s causing some schools to move to virtual learning for the safety and well-being of students and educators.

We’re extremely concerned to learn that these districts may face financial losses due to moving students to online learning.

We urge state leaders to address this problem expediently so our schools, and the students they serve, aren’t shortchanged.”
