ISTA Statement on Passage of HB 1315
05/14/2018

Indiana State Teachers Association President Teresa Meredith released this statement following the passage of HB 1315:

"We are disappointed that legislators did not respect the voices of educators in this important conversation. This bill sets a deeply concerning precedent by using fiscal issues to disrupt local control of our public schools. Students and their families deserve to have safe and stable learning environments, and communities deserve to have a school board that is accountable to the voters.

We will continue to advocate for teachers as meaningful partners in Muncie schools going forward. We ask that Ball State recognize the importance of the collective voice of Muncie teachers, which teachers in all public schools are entitled to, in delivering a quality education and pledge to work with them to the benefit of the community, its schools and students."
