ISTA Statement on Latest School Funding Shortfall
02/12/2018

ISTA President Teresa Meredith released this statement following reports that Indiana’s school funding shortfall is much larger than originally thought:

“A school funding shortfall is not acceptable and will impact student learning if not fixed. This news comes as the House passed a bill that will impose harsh consequences on communities and schools that are deemed to be financially distressed. The connection to this current shortfall in funding can’t be denied.

Larger than expected enrollment in traditional public schools has been cited as the cause for the funding shortfall. It’s time that our legislators fully fund our traditional public schools where more than 90 percent of students attend.”
