ISTA Statement on IDOE Literacy Endorsement Changes
05/17/2024

In response to new guidance from Indiana Secretary of Education Dr. Katie Jenner on Indiana’s early literacy endorsement requirements, ISTA President Keith Gambill issued the following statement.

"ISTA remains committed to the success of all Hoosier students. Today’s letter from Secretary Jenner acknowledging the extensive requirements of the new literacy endorsement is a testament to the importance of educator advocacy. The adjustments to these requirements reflect the voices and concerns of educators across Indiana. ISTA will continue to advocate for further changes and increased flexibility. We thank every educator who spoke out and to the Department for responding to the concerns. ISTA looks forward to working collaboratively with the IDOE to ensure that continued changes are made, allowing us to move forward in strengthening student literacy in Indiana."
