ISTA Statement in Support of Indiana’s Request to Cancel Statewide Testing
03/13/2020

ISTA President Keith Gambill issued the following statement in response to Superintendent Jennifer McCormick’s request to cancel state standardized tests due to school closures.

“ISTA supports the department’s request to cancel statewide testing due to the state of emergency our schools are experiencing. When students return to their classrooms, they should be focused on making up valuable classroom time. Just as important, our teachers should be focused on what they do best, teaching.

Many of our kids will experience trauma from the events unfolding over the next few weeks. Let’s focus on their health and well-being, not standardized tests.”
