ISTA Statement in Response to School Funding Referendums
05/08/2019

Ten school funding referendums appeared on Tuesday’s primary ballot. ISTA President Teresa Meredith issued the following statement in response to the election results:

“Declining state revenue for public schools has forced many to turn to property owners to ask for additional funding. Although we are happy for the six school districts that passed their referendums, we acknowledge the tough decisions that will have to be made in the four districts who did not.

“This system of the state minimally funding our public schools and forcing many of our schools to ask for additional funds from sometimes already struggling communities is deeply flawed. We must do better by the 1.1 million students who attend our public schools and the hard-working educators who teach in them.”
