Coalition Calls for Defeat of HB 1608

The Indiana Educational Equity Coalition is calling on legislators to oppose HB 1608. The coalition of civic, faith, youth and education groups say the bill is not needed or productive. ISTA is a founding member of the coalition.

Legislators have spent considerable time working on HB 1608. The bill seeks to ban the instruction of human sexuality in pre-K through third grade – a practice that is not happening in Indiana public schools. Rather than allowing local schools and educators to work collaboratively with parents on addressing individual student needs, the bill would add a blanket statewide mandate for educators on addressing issues of pronouns and name changes.
